SIP
phone service is a new technology to the market today. SIP
service will allow even more conversations to pass over a T1 to the
customers phone system. VoIP T1 typically have 0-16 or even 24
channels based on compression for voice conversations. SIP channels or
SIP trunking can allow up to 30 channels per T1. SIP service on phone
equipment is also a newer technology allowing for more IP telephony services
to be pushed out to the users and interaction with presence based
applications like instant messaging (IM and telephone BLF). SIP
trunking customers also do not have to buy a traditional T1 card for their
phone system since it is truly IP from the provide to the customer data
network; whereas, VOIP is voip to the customer router then a traditional
interface to the T1 port of a phone system.
